Inspired by a 2024 train ride from Chicago to Los Angeles, presenter Keith Danish will take us on a trip through the history of railroads in the U.S., with a special focus on passenger rail service, including its economic, cultural, political, culinary, musical and poetical aspects. As a recent recipient of a large chunk of federal infrastructure funding, Amtrak appeared to have an assured future until the change of administration in Washington D.C. However, its passenger service is unlikely to resemble the “high-speed rail” offered in so many countries. We’ll discuss what the future may hold.
