MEMBERSHIP

Eligibility 

GRNN is designed for Glen Rock residents age 55+. Glen Rock residents can join as full members or social members. We welcome residents from adjacent communities to join as social members. 

Membership Options & Benefits

  • Full Membership - Individual (1 person, $150/year) 
  • Full Membership - Household (2 people, $225/year)
  • Social Membership - Open to Glen Rock Residents and Non-Residents (1 person/ $60/year)

 

FULL MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Services:

You can request the following from our fully trained, background checked Glen Rock volunteers: 

    • Transportation: Rides to local destinations, including errands, medical and other appointments, stores, and social events.

    • Errands: Volunteers can pick up prescriptions, shop for groceries, mail items at the post office and more. 

    • Minor Household Tasks: Light bulb changing, minor repairs, flipping bed mattresses, picture hanging, changing 
      smoke alarm batteries, lifting heavy boxes, etc. 

    • Light Technology Assistance: Troubleshooting your computer, smartphone or other devices, and setting up devices

    • Friendly Visits: Volunteers can spend time with you, or, if you are caring for a member of your household, spend time with them to enable you to tend to your own errands or appointments.

Social Connections: 

    • Events and Activities: Invitations to social gatherings, activities, and events, including parties, coffee meetups, lectures, educational activities, group walks, movies, and more.

    • Access to GRNN's member directory 

    • Weekly e-blast with information about events and programs "around town"

    • "Village Talk" online discussion board to share ideas and local information and to ask questions of other members

What is NOT included in a GRNN membership? 

●  Assistance with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing and eating
●  Administration or handling medications, treatment, or any type of medical care 
●  Regular home maintenance such as cleaning and lawn care. Requests for help with small, occasional tasks are permitted. 
●  Tasks that require a professional license (plumbing, electrical work, nurse assistance) 
●  Attempts to lift someone who has fallen, provide lift assistance, or lift objects over 40-50 lbs. 
●  Referrals or recommendations to paid services or contractors  

    

How do I apply for membership? 

    1. Request a membership application by emailing grnncoordinator@northjerseyvillages.org or call 201-739-8425.
    2. Once you have completed the application, please contact us at the information above to set up an appointment with a member of the GRNN Membership Team. 
    3. A Membership Team member will then meet with you and review your application. 
    4. Full members are asked to complete a background check. 
    5. Training is also provided to enable you to access member benefits either online or by phone. 

 

I understand that GRNN is a non-profit. So why is there a membership fee?

GRNN is part of North Jersey Villages, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Expenses for operating costs, administrative expenses, website maintenance, background checks, etc. are funded through membership fees, grants, and donations. 

 

Is a GRNN Membership right for me? Please consider the following: 

  • Have fun, learn new things, and meet people! 
    Stay connected with your community and people you enjoy
  • Discover opportunities to help others and to give back to your neighbors
  • GRNN volunteers are ready and available to provide assistance - No need to feel bad about asking the same friends, neighbors, or family members for help! 
  • Keep your independence while remaining an active, valued member of our community
  • Gain a sense of security knowing that there is a network of community members here for you when needed
  • Transportation services are friendly and comfortable, and take you from point to point, person to person, any time of day and any day of the week (assuming volunteer availability)
  • You probably will save money! Your membership fee will likely cost less per year than what it will cost to pay for Uber/Lyft or other ride share service, home handyman services, technology support, and other services. 

 

Can a member also be a GRNN volunteer?
